Project silent-pc
Recently I bought the components for a new PC, and it turned out that the box was pretty noisy, especially the turbo-jets on the graphics card.
The components are:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2830MHz
- DFI Lanparty DK P45-T2RS Plus Motherboard
- 8 Gigs of Mushkin RedLine DDR2 1000MHz XP2-8000 RAM
- ATI Radeon 4870X2 2GB PCIe Graphics card (Asus EAH4870X2)
- WD Caviar Black 640GB SATA 7200rpm
- Thermaltake Armor Tower
- BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P7 750W PSU
I actually knew that this machine will be pretty loud before starting it up for the first time.
After 2 weeks of air/stock cooling I decided to integrate a liquid cooling system, for the sake of the noise.
So I startet reading related sites on the Internet to get some basic knowledge on that issue and I finally came up with these parts:
- Aquacomputer Aquastream XT Ultra Pump
- EK Waterblocks Supreme Acetal CPU Cooler
- Watercool Heatkiller GPU-X² GPU Cooler for the 4870X2
- 240 Radiator (for 2 120mm fans)
- 2 120mm fans (~12db, you cant hear them)
- 3 meters of flexible, transparent hose (Masterkleer 8/11,2mm)
- some mounting material
Mounting the radiator on 5 1/4″ slide-ins

Installing the CPU Cooler (old picture, motherboard has been replaced afterwards)

Applying thermal conducting paste and pads…

Finally some pics of the assembled system:

All together this was a very nice task and I really recommend this everyone who emphasizes low noise and/or cooling power.
Cheers
Alex
